There are several ways to reach Batanes Island, but the most common way is by air. Here are the step-by-step instructions on how to get to Batanes Island:

  • Book a flight to Basco, Batanes. Philippine Airlines is the leading airline that operates flights to Batanes, with flights departing from Manila and Clark International Airport. Skyjet also operates flights to Batanes from Manila.
  • Board your flight to Basco, Batanes. The flight usually takes around 1 hour and 30 minutes.
  • Upon arrival at Basco Airport, you must pay the Batanes Environmental Fee of PHP 350 (as of 2023) before exiting the airport.
  • You can then take a tricycle or a van to your accommodation. Tricycles are a standard mode of transportation in Basco, while vans are available for hire for longer trips around the island.
  • Once you have settled in, you can start exploring Batanes Island and all its stunning natural beauty.

Note:  

  • There are no direct ferries or boats to Batanes, so flying is the only option for getting to the island.
  • Check the weather conditions before your flight, as flights to Batanes can be delayed or canceled due to strong winds and rough sea conditions.
  • Remember to be at the airport 2 hours before your flight. Bring a valid ID with you.

How to Travel from an Batanes Island to another

Batanes is an archipelago with three main islands 

  1. Batan
  2. Sabtang
  3. Itbayat

You can take a boat or a small plane to reach Batanes from one island to another.

Here are the steps to reach each island:

Batan Island to Sabtang Island:

  • Take a tricycle or jeepney to Ivana Port, about 5 kilometers south of Basco.
  • Board a Faluwa, a traditional Ivatan boat that leaves Ivana Port daily from 6:00 am to 7:30 am. The boat ride takes about 1 hour.
  • Upon arrival at Sabtang Port, hire a tricycle to take you to your destination.

Sabtang Island to Batan Island:

  • Head to Sabtang Port
  • Catch a Faluwa back to Ivana Port on Batan Island
  • Boats leave daily from 7:00 am to 8:00 am.
  • Upon arrival at Ivana Port, take a tricycle or jeepney to your destination.

Batan Island to Itbayat Island:

  • You can take a small plane from Basco Airport to Itbayat Airport. 
  • Two airlines operate flights – Sky Pasada and Wakay Air. 
  • Flight schedules may vary, so it’s best to check in advance.
  • Alternatively, you can also take a boat from Basco Port to Itbayat Port. 
  • The boat ride takes about 4-5 hours, and there are usually two trips per week.
